Notable Fixes/Changes in Version 6.0c
- You can now import video from a finalized Sony DVD Handycam® camcorder disc. From the File menu, choose Import, and then choose DVD Camcorder Disc. Standard and VR-mode discs are supported. Please see Known Issues for additional information.
- You can now export AVC (also called H.264 or MPEG-4 AVC) video to a USB-connected PSP™ (PlayStation®Portable). From the Tools menu, choose Export to PSP™ (PlayStation®Portable).
NOTE: PSP firmware version 2.0 or later is required to use this feature. To check your firmware version, choose Settings > System Settings > System Information. For the latest firmware, go to http://us.playstation.com (in the United States) or http://www.playstation.com (outside the United States).

- Scripting: support has been added for accessing media markers and regions (read only) via new Media Markers and Media Regions collections.
- Scripting: a Promote Media Markers script has been added. You can use this script to promote markers in selected events to the timeline.
Notable Fixes/Changes in Version 6.0b
General
- A bug has been fixed that could cause
a crash after undoing a marker move if the marker had a
long label.
- A bug has been fixed that caused regions to appear as
markers or at the wrong time when pasted
into the Edit Details window.
- The installation of some Adobe applications may result
in users of some Sony Media Software applications to display
the following message on app startup: "This application
has failed to start because PRM.dll was not found. Re-installing
the application may fix this problem." If you see
this message when launching any Sony Media Software application,
you can simply click OK and proceed. Vegas
6.0b includes a workaround to prevent this message at startup.
- A bug has been fixed that caused the the Quantize to
Frames setting to be bypassed when dragging and holding
the Shift key.

and stretch quality because the setting
also determines the quality of processing when time stretching
audio.
- A bug has been fixed that caused the Preserve
pitch when stretching audio events preferences
to be ignored when deselected.
- A bug has been fixed that could cause unexpectedly loud
output or popping from the LFE channel in a 5.1 surround

projects that contain UAD plug-ins.
- Various fixes have been made to the Audio Plug-In window.
- The record time remaining display now shows the time
remaining for all armed tracks.
Capture / Print to Tape
- A pre-capture dialog has been added to allow you to choose
whether you want to capture DV using an external video
capture
application
or SDI/HDV clips using the internal Vegas video capture
application. If you always capture from the same device,
you can choose to always use the selected method (you can
change the method later on the Video tab of the Preferences
dialog).
- ADS Pyro

with discontinuities.
- Audio preview performance during HDV capture has been
improved for slower systems.
- A bug has been fixed in the new video capture application
that prevented the Length box from being
updated when the Timecode in or Timecode
out boxes were edited when capturing from a DeckLink
device.
- Buttons have been added to the Length,
Timecode in, and Timecode
out boxes in the new video capture application
so you can specify which value will be calculated
automatically while capturing from a DeckLink device.
- Timecode accuracy has been improved when capturing
from and printing video to DeckLink devices with support
for Decklink.dll v4.8 and v4.9.
- A bug has been fixed in the Contour ShuttlePro .pref
file for external video capture.
Media Manager

down while Sony applications that support the Media Manager
are running.
- The Media Manager now includes .veg files when scanning
for media.
- A bug has been fixed that prevented clips from being
added to the Media Manager when multiple clips were batch
captured.
- A bug has been fixed that prevented files from previewing
when the Save media-usage relationships in active
media library check box was selected.
Scripting
Notable Fixes/Changes in Version 6.0a
- You can now print to HDV tape by choosing Print
Video to HDV Tape from the
Tools menu. This new wizard supports all currently shipping
HDV cameras and deck types.
- Double-clicking a .veg file now opens
the Vegas project instead of nesting the .veg within
the current project. If you want to nest a .veg, you
can drag
it from
the Explorer window or choose File > Import > Media and
browse to the .veg you want to nest.
- A bug has been fixed that prevented
events that are contained completely
within other events from being exported when exporting your project
as an AAF file.
- Scripts that have been compiled as .DLL files can now be added to the Scripting menu.
- If you create a shortcut to a script in the Script Menu folder, you can use the shortcut to call the script and pass an argument to the script. By creating multiple shortcuts with different arguments, you can use the same script for several functions, and each shortcut will appear in the Scripting menu as a separate item.
- The Resample quality setting on the Audio tab of
the Project Properties dialog determines the quality
of processing when time-stretching audio events.
- When you nest Vegas projects, a warning is now displayed
if media files or plug-ins from the nested project are
not available on your computer.
- A new setting has been added to the General tab
of the Preferences dialog. Select the AAF Export
- Use frame unit for audio check
box if you want to use frame units for audio tracks when
you export
your project as an AAF file. When the check box is cleared,
audio will be exported as sample units. Selecting the
check box will improve compatibility with other applications
for project interchange: some
applications will not import your project correctly
when frame units are used for video and sample units
are used for audio. Clear the check box only if your
project contains audio only or if you know the application
that will
import your AAF file supports frame units for video
and sample units for audio.
- If you installed a boxed version of the initial
Vegas 6.0 release, the DV video capture
tool would
time
out
and
become
unusable.
This has been fixed in version 6.0a.
- Numerous stability and performance enhancements have
been implemented for DeckLink capture, batch capture,
timecode-based capture, and print to tape.

rendering
- Ability to display
fade lengths between selected and nonselected events
- Regions and markers that occur at the end of rendered file are now adjusted
so they occur on the last audio sample of the rendered file. If you're
rendering the loop region only, any region that extends beyond the loop
region is adjust so the region end occurs on the last audio sample. This
adjustment prevents warning messages when the rendered files are opened
in Sound Forge software.
Hardware
- Support for capturing and printing to tape via Blackmagic
Design DeckLink™ cards
- Support for capturing from HDV cameras
- If you have a USB SmartMedia reader device installed on
your PC, you may experience problems when you attempt to
access your CD drive from Vegas software for extracting
audio or burning CDs. This is due to an error in the SmartMedia
reader driver. Using the Unplug or Eject Hardware Wizard
to remove the reader should allow Vegas software to function
normally.
- In order to use full-screen video preview on a secondary
monitor, the Extend my Windows desktop onto this
monitor check box must be selected on the Settings
tab or the Display Properties dialog (Start > Settings
> Control Panel > Display)
- If your display adapter does not support 3D acceleration,
you will not be able to use full-screen video preview on
a secondary video monitor.
- If you experience video problems when using full-screen
video preview on a secondary video monitor, update your
display adapter to use the latest drivers from the manufacturer.
- 24-bit Windows Media Audio files will always be read as
16-bit files in Windows 2000 (multichannel files are read
as 16-bit stereo). This is a limitation of the operating
system. You can render 24-bit WMA files, but if you want
to read these files as 24-bit audio, copy them to a Windows
XP machine.
- If you export a Vegas project that contains video crossfades
as an AAF file and import the AAF into Adobe Premiere 1.5,
an error will be displayed. This is due to a limitation
of the AAF plug-in that was included with Premiere 1.5.
Please check with Adobe for an update.
- If you import an Adobe Premiere 1.5 AAF into a Vegas project, audio transitions will not be preserved. This is due to a limitation of the AAF plug-in that was included with Premiere 1.5. Please check with Adobe for an update.
- If you import an Adobe Premiere 1.5 AAF into a Vegas
project, Clip Speed/Duration settings from the Premiere
project will not be correctly associated with the Playback
rate control in the Vegas Event Properties dialog. This
is due to a limitation of the AAF plug-in that was included
with Premiere 1.5.
Please check with Adobe for an update.
- HDV capture requires that you have a registered version
of the Sony MPEG-2 plug-in on your system.
- If you want to use the Media Manager with ACID 5.0 and
Vegas 6.0 software, please install the ACID 5.0a update.
- You can use native HDV MPEG-2 transport streams on the
Vegas timeline, but playback performance will be poor on
most systems. We recommend you convert the native HDV footage—or
selected portions of it—to an HDV intermediate format
for timeline editing. You can add your native HDV files
on the timeline, create regions for selected scenes, and
then choose Tools > Scripting > Batch Render. In the Batch
Render dialog, choose a target folder, the intermediate
file type(s) you wish
to use,
and select the Render
Regions radio button to create multiple intermediate
files. For more information about working with HDV, please
refer to the online help.
- If you are printing a rendered file to HDV tape,
the file must precisely conform to the target HDV
device
and file type requirements, or the print-to-tape operation
will fail. Rendering using the provided HDV MPEG-2 render
templates—unmodified in any way—is required to successfully
print to HDV tape.
- The Sony Handycam USB driver that is included with DVD-based camcorders can prevent Vegas from recognizing a USB-connected camera. If you use the Add/Remove Programs Control Panel to uninstall the "Sony DVD Handycam USB driver" component, Vegas will be able connect to the camera and import video using Import > DVD Camcorder Disc.
- 5.1-channel audio will be downmixed to stereo when importing video from a DVD camcorder disc.
- VR mode requires Windows XP SP2 or greater.
